Eric Stefanski
Snarky, self-aware, and potty-mouthed, Chicago-based painter Eric Stefanski’s works demonstate a constantly evolving technique that melds painting, drawing, illustration, and collage. A seemingly rapid, intuitive application of paint and hand-written text is at odds with a careful consideration of color and the conversation between written word and active surface.
Drawing on a practice of poetic self-reflection, self-deprication, cultural commentary, and campy romanticism, Stefanski deftly inserts his wry sense of humor to simultaneously look inward and outward at love and marriage, politics and culture, and the oft-frustrating roller-coaster that is a professional artistic practice.
