Gross Anatomy by Charley Friedman
Gross Anatomy by Charley Friedman
Gross Anatomy/Anatomia Completa is a limited edition (70) hand-silkscreened artist book made at Editions Arte Dos Grafico in Bogota, Colombia in 2016. 8 characters from Joán Miro's paintings were appropriated and recontextualized. On one side, Miro's figures are faithfully recreated so as not to alter his line, shape, or color scheme. On the other side is a fully developed anatomical study of each character. All systems of the anatomy are represented from the nervous system to circulatory. Medical anatomy books were used so systems could be designed that would best exemplify how a particular anatomical system would function in each Miro body. They are designed to look and feel real even though imagined.
The books pulls out like an accordion and can be displayed standing or folded. The book is accompanied by an essay written by the eminent Colombian artist Miguel Angel Rojas in addition to describing the various technical aspects of the piece in both English and Spanish.
